Made in the 80's

I'm pretty sure this is meant to be a dress, but when you have giant beanstalks for legs, you gotta improvise a little. I decided to throw on some jeans with it. Coworkers, you're welcome.

When I added the jeans, the dress then felt a little too long for a top, so I added my go-to belt and bloused it over a bit to shorten it up.  It never looks right when you have a 50 to 50 ratio on bottom and top. When my top is longer, I make sure to wear heals or blouse over if necessary! Now it looks more like a 60-40.

I was grateful I decided to add the jeans, because when it's 90 degrees outside, the AC is always kicked up to the max inside~ I was happy for the extra warmth! Win!

The awesome 80's sleeves were what sold me on this dress....wait, or was it the abstract brush stroke print?

I totally forgot we had this fountain courtyard in our apartment complex. I'm always finding neat photo shoot locations here!

Botox.....for your wardrobe

While browsing Chictopia and drooling over all the great outfits people come up with, I decided there were several trends I just have to try. Then, I realized there are some I can do without even buying anything! So I thought I would share 10 ways to change up your wardrobe for free that you all might want to try too! (These are not invasive plastic surgery changes, but just a couple of shots of wardrobe Botox! )
1. Go all the way. Button your blouse all the way up to the neck~ I mean to the very top neck button! Sounds like such a tiny little change, but I was amazed at how different it made my outfit look! It just looks so retro, which is so now!

2. Do some pull ups. Pull a skirt all the way up to high waist. High-waist skirts are certainly no new trend, but it just recently dawned on me that I have a lot of old hip skirts I never wear anymore that I could just pull on up! This suddenly expanded my skirt selection a great deal~ woohoo! The best kind to pull up are the ones with elastic waistbands, but you could also try just using a belt to hold it at the waist. Plus, it's always a good thing when you emphasize the smallest part of your body~!

3. Be a tucker. Remember in middle school when teachers made you tuck in your shirts? We all hated it so much and I always felt so dorky! Well, now I love it!! I tuck in everything.

4. Sock it to me. If you're really brave enough, you can jump on this awesome trend and wear socks with your sandals!

5. Jorts: Jeans+shorts= Jorts! And Dad, I'm not talking to you--only girls and really really trendy guys are allowed to follow this trend!

6. Head Wrap: Wear a scarf on your head. I lot of people already do this, but I've never tried it so I thought I would!

7. Dirts. Dress worn as skirt= dirt??! I lot of people are wearing dresses as skirts these days. It probably works best with a strapless dress that you can just roll down the bodice portion. You can also try skirts as dresses or dresses as shirts (just tuck into a skirt or pants).

8. Blaze-it-down. Take a blazer from a suit and wear it with jeans or jean shorts. Unfortunately this is one that won't be free for me since I don't own a suit, but I thought you all might already own one! I must find a navy blazer fast!!!

9. Mix and Don't Match. Wear stripes with polka dots or florals with plaids or whatever! Anything goes these days. For the best result, make sure there is a common color in your top and bottoms.

10. Tie it up: I think a tied up shirt would be a great look for the beach!

Craft Swap!

So when my best friend Melissa (the interior designer version of me) made some presh jewelry and headbands the other day, I begged her to let me buy some! Instead, she said why don't I make her a skirt! She'd been looking for a red skirt like this for a while......so here it is Mel!
And you know I just had to try it on for myself~! hehe~ hope she doesn't mind if it's been worn a little.

I think we should do craft swaps more often~ that was fun!!

I ended up styling this all patriotic without really meaning to. Guess I'm ready for 4th of July already??

It will be interesting to see how Melissa styles this up!

Flea Market Chic

American Apparel was having a huge flea market tent sale, so I definitely hit that up and got some really great deals including this yellow T-shirt and Mint green pants.

How gigantic to I look? lol! My legs come out of my neck in these pants! I kinda like it!

It was a disgustingly muggy 92 degrees the day of the flea market, but all the sweating was worth it!

T-shirt to the next level

Want to get away with wearing a T-shirt to work? Just add a skirt and a few accessories!
I've worn this skirt so many ways. The elastic waist allows for so much versatility! If I wear it down at the hip it becomes a long maxi skirt, I can also pull it way up and wear it as a dress, but today I decided to wear it belted at the waist~ I think this is my favorite way!

Outfit Details:
T-shirt: American Apparel Flea Market (look for this at a city near you!)
Skirt: Macy's
Belt: need I tell you again? Ruche!
Necklace: Forever 21
Earrings: the streets of NYC
Sandals: TJ Maxx

A few seconds standing next to the funniest person ev

Monday night I fulfilled one of my life-long dreams. We went to see Conan O'Brien at the Fox theater. It was a flaming viking ship of comedy.

First of all, let me apologize for posting some of the worst photography you have ever seen. It was dark, and our seats were really really far away.

Really pumped!

Conan wanted a really cool background prop so he could be like a famous rocker. He decided he wanted a replica of Meatloaf's bat out of Hell. His bat ended up looking more goofy, and less evil.

Jack McBrayer showed up! I didn't know he was a native of Atlanta! He is about to pull the Chuck Norris Lever.

At the very end Conan came out into the audience~ I could almost touch him! You would have thought I would have gotten a great picture at this point, but again I apologize.

Conan's guitar. Didn't know we were going to a concert....

So about the outfit...
I was definitely in a bit of a dilemma about what to wear. Fox theater usually means dressy, but comedy show means laid back casual, so what was I to do?
I opted for this dress which has a "dressier" silhouette but is made out of a more casual cotton fabric. To tone down the dressiness even more, I added the tank underneath and a pair of black studded gladiator flats. I was comfortable and (I think) appropriately dressed.
Dress: Forever 21~ this dress was the inspiration for my entire wedding scheme!
Tone-it-down-Tank: Old Navy
Belt: Express-- came with another dress
Shoes: Steve Madden
Purse: Betsey Johnson via TJ Maxx.

Pops!

This was one of those great weekends where we had absolutely nothing planned, and we could just be spontaneous--- oh how I love those kind of weekends! :)
Saturday after a morning of lounging around the pool and browsing a fabric store,we decided it was high time for a Popsicle. I had read about King of Pops on Design Sponge the other day and really wanted to check it out.
All I can say is Best. Popsicle. Ev.

Look at all these cool flavors~!

I tried mint grapefruit. It had real mint leaves in it~!
